Enabling older and disabled people to stay in their own homes

Our response to Covid-19 Virus

Keeping our customers, colleagues and communities safe - our response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Care and Repair Scotland's office at 135 Buchanan Street, Glasgow will be closed to visitors until further notice. Service delivery offices throughout Scotland have taken the same measures.

Staff will work from home where possible and are still contactable by telephone and email.

Please be aware that each office will operate a response that is tailored to their local authority area. Therefore there will be different levels of service operating across Scotland. You should contact your local office for further information:

Broadly speaking, the service will operate as described:

Clients are being asked the appropriate questions when requesting a job.   Staff have disposable rubber gloves, hand sanitisers and will phone clients when arrived at their home to ask them to open the door and sit in another room where possible.

Our small repairs/ handymen teams will be concentrating on outdoor jobs where no contact with clients is needed.

We will only go into clients' houses for emergency or urgent work. There are strict protocols for both staff and clients to observe.

External contractors have their own protocols in place and we will liaise with them in order to provide an ongoing service where possible.

Staff with underlying health conditions will have no contact with clients.

We are compiling a list of vulnerable clients and will be checking in on them from time to time by phone. Some areas teams are looking to assist clients in other ways during the emergency and further details will be published.

In some areas adaptations, where both the clients and their family and the contractor are happy, we will carry on with these cases. Again, there will be strict controls and protocols.

We will maintain contact with our NHS/OT colleagues to decide how we will manage hospital discharges, Telecare etc.

We really hope to still be contactable Mon – Fri 9-5, as best as we can over the coming months, though the service we will be able to deliver will be greatly reduced.
