Enabling older and disabled people to stay in their own homes

Scottish Government Consultation on Housing for Older People

The Scottish Government is developing a national strategy for the future housing of older people. The strategy is expected to be finalised in December 2011.

The draft strategy has been developed with the help of a working group that includes COSLA, SFHA, Age Scotland, Care and Repair Scotland and other stakeholders.

There is now an opportunity for wider comment and discussion and the draft document is available for consultation until 30 September.

The strategy is in line with a longstanding policy of 'shifting the balance of care'. This means supporting people to remain at home for as long as possible, rather than in care homes or hospitals. Care and Repair services have a key role in helping older and disabled people maintain and adapt their properties to to help meet changing demands and circumstances.

The full text of the draft strategy is available for download.
